The International Radio Festival of Iran is the biggest event in the radio calendar in the Middle East and North Africa, receiving entries from radio stations and independent producers every two years from all around the globe. The festival provides participants with a great opportunity to express their creativity and imagination, interact with others from the radio world, and of course compete for the coveted trophy of the gala.
Iran’s radio was established a year after the invasion of the Allies to the country in 1940. The first building of the radio was a house in the western part of the Mashq Square (now between Imam Khomeini and Si-e Tir streets in southern Tehran) to broadcast the productions of the Iran’s governmental radio. The first employees were the interested people from the education ministry other Iranian ministries.
Tehran’s Kolah Farangi (French hat) building was built more than half a century ago. It got its name from its architectural similarity with a French hat. The building was located in the Bisim Garden area and was surrounded with many dense gardens on a road to the Shemiran region near Tehran.
